Is the school making adequate yearly academic progress, as measured by the Indiana Department of Education’s system of accountability?

 
ADEQUATE YEARLY PROGRESS (AYP)
 

Each year, pursuant to the federal No Child Left Behind Act, the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) determines whether public schools made AYP from one year to the next.  AYP determinations are based on students’ participation and pass rates on the ISTEP+ and attendance rates or graduation rates. AYP is determined based on the number of student subgroups present at a school.  A school must meet performance targets for every subgroup to make AYP overall.  In 2010-11, Fountain Square Academy made AYP in 12 out of 15 subgroups.

AYP History

PUBLIC LAW 221 (PL 221)

Under PL 221, the IDOE places each public school into one of five performance categories based on a combination of annual improvement on the ISTEP+ and overall ISTEP+ pass rates. In 2011, Fountain Square Academy improved on ISTEP+ by 6.6 percent and had an overall pass rate of 65.7 percent to receive a C (Academic Progress) placement.

 

 

Are students making substantial and adequate gains over time, as measured using value-added analysis?

Not evaluated.  The school was not evaluated for this indicator in the 2010-11 academic year.

 

Is the school outperforming schools that the students would have been assigned to attend?

The Mayor’s Office compared both the proficiency and annual growth on ISTEP+ in English/language arts and mathematics of Fountain Square Academy students to the proficiency and growth within the Marion County public schools that students would have been assigned to attend, based on their residence. Proficiency on ISTEP+ for students at the school was higher than that of the average traditional public schools students would have been assigned to attend. Students at the school grew at a much faster pace in English/language arts and mathematics.
