Charter School Performance Information
Charter schools provide high-quality educational options for all parents and students and allow innovative reformers to create new schools that serve students and families exceptionally well. Although a number of entities have the power to authorize charter schools, Mayor Ballard is the only mayor in the country with this authority.
The information included on the following pages provides a transparent view of how Mayor-sponsored charter schools are performing – academically, operationally, and financially. The intent of providing this information is to equip the public, stakeholders, and the Mayor with a comprehensive picture of the schools’ strengths, challenges, and overall performance. In the past, the Mayor’s Office has published data in an annual Accountability Report for Mayor-Sponsored Charter Schools. Beginning in 2009-10, however, data has been moved online to allow the public more interactive, current information regarding school performance.
As the following information demonstrates, Mayor-sponsored charter schools have achieved notable success; however areas for improvement also exist. It is the Mayor’s expectation that each school builds upon successes and quickly addresses deficiencies. The success of charter schools adds to the community’s vibrant quality of life, further elevating Indianapolis as a great place to live and work.
