Rate hike coming to Time Warner cable customers

Time Warner Cable customers will see an increase in their monthly cable bills beginning
in January. The company -- which serves homes within the Indianapolis Public School district, Carmel, Zionsville, Fortville, Avon and Marion --blames the fee increase on rising programming costs and added operations.
Indianapolis area customers who receivebasic service will pay 54 cents more each
month. Customers' bills for standard service will rise a $1.50, from $32.09 a month to $33.59.
Other communities' rates may vary from Indianapolis' by 2 or 3 cents, depending on the
area, said Al Aldridge, spokesman for Time Warner. Time Warner itself will face a 14.2 percent increase in programming costs from suppliers in early 2001, forcing the company to pass some of that cost onto customers, Aldridge
said.
"We obviously aren't passing all of that on," he said. Customers who receive standard service will get three channels added to their lineup Jan.1 -- Outdoor Life, FX and Valuevision.
