The mission of the Department of Code Enforcement (DCE) is to improve the quality of life in the City of Indianapolis through strategic application of civil code regulation; effective licensing, permitting, inspection, enforcement, and abatement practices; and local government oversight of property use/safety and maintenance, business, event, professional, and construction industries.

WHAT'S NEW  

 

CONTRACTOR LICENSING INFORMATION - Did you know that contractors must be licensed and secure required permits to perform any work? If you hire an unlicensed contractors, you will be responsible for costly repairs or held liable for personal injury or property damage. If you suspect an unlicensed contractor or non-permitted work, call the Mayor's Action Center. Check out this PSA for more details.

 

LICENSE INFORMATION FOR TOBACCO SPECIALTY BARS
The City's Smoking Ordinance will become effective June 1, 2012.  DCE will license businesses that qualify as an exempt Tobacco Specialty Bar.  Click here for details and application forms.  Click here to view a summary of what businesses will be impacted.

 

TENTS AND TEMPORARY STRUCTURES

Due to the 2011 passage of the special events ordinance and the activities associated with Super Bowl XLVI, the Department of Code Enforcement (DCE) issues structural permits and limited duration licenses for temporary tents, canopies and membrane structures. NEW!  ELECTRONIC SUBMITTALS FOR ROW PERMITS
Beginning March 5th, DCE will provide a new electronic submittal, payment and permit issuance capability for Right of Way Use, Excavation and Oversized/Overweight permit. Save time and the expense of driving to our office by using the new electronic submittal process.  Click here for more information.
 

ELECTRONIC SUBMITTAL FOR CONTRACTOR LICENSE RENEWALS

The Department of Code Enforcement is currently processing a high volume of contractor license renewals. If you bring your application to our lobby, we will take payment and your submittal information for back-office processing. You will not be able to pick up your license on the same day it is submitted. Save time and the expense of driving to our office by using our new electronic submittal process.
