From July 7th to August 21st, 2003, field work to inventory abandoned houses in the old city limits was conducted by Ball State University students
Three field teams, each with 2 students, worked with a student project manager to complete the inventory.
The teams used PDAs (personal digital assistants) with the ArcPad GIS (geographical information system) software, to inventory the existing housing structures.
The results of the inventory include data that were used for creating hard-copy maps and an online GIS application that dynamically displays vacant housing.
