Long Range Planning's primary responsibility is the preparation of the Comprehensive Plan for Indianapolis/Marion County. The Comprehensive Plan has many components, including recommendations for transportation, parks, land use, zoning, economic development and public facilities.
The Comprehensive Planning staff analyzes community conditions, makes projections and recommends plans to private and public projects. Staff develops plans for the improvement of streets, change of land use, protection of natural resources and the expenditure of public money. Residents, business owners, City agencies and others are involved in these efforts.
The Long Range Planning section prepares a number of reports and maps each year. This information is available to the public (see Documents page).
Long Range Planning is also responsible for the preparation of neighborhood plans, corridor plans, redevelopment plans, urban design studies, the Regional Center Plan and other types of small area plans.
