The Department of Minority and Women Business Development (DMWBD) and the City of Indianapolis participated in a business networking event at the Indianapolis Children’s Museum October 19th in an effort to promote public-private partnerships with the City of Indianapolis.

Contracting Opportunities at Children's Museum

The event was a collaborative effort between the City of Indianapolis, Indianapolis Business Journal, Indianapolis Cultural Development Commission, Indianapolis Zoo, NCAA National Office, the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, and the United Way of Indiana.

More than 30 businesses and community organizations attended the event as well as 200 MBE/WBE vendors who were seeking business opportunities during the day long conference.

“Mayor Ballard often talks about the importance of a strong and diversified business community here in Indianapolis”, said DMWBD Director Greg Wilson, “I am a firm believer in this and Mayor Ballard’s vision to ‘diversify diversity’.”

DMWBD networking opportunities greatly increase a vendor’s access to business opportunities and resources, while also providing opportunities for vendors to meet with procurement and contracting decision makers in the city.   Many also use these networking events to learn the intricacies of the bidding and contracting process here in Indianapolis.

“This is a perfect example of Mayor Ballard’s vision of public-private partnerships in Indianapolis,” said Michael Huber, the Mayor’s Director of Enterprise Development, who spoke at the event.  “In order for Indianapolis to be competitive on a national level, the city must work to promote events that bring together the city’s diverse workforce.”
