Department of Minority & Women Business Development Holds Networking Event For Neighborhood Stabilization Program

The City’s Department of Minority & Women Business Development (DMWBD) held a networking event on November 12, to address contracting opportunities for minority- , women- , and Veteran-owned businesses wanting to participate in the Neighborhood Stabilization Project (NSP) that is starting soon. The event was designed to expose firms certified by the City as M/WBEs, as well as those registered as VBEs, to the decision-makers in the four Community Development Corporations and two neighborhood organizations receiving funds through a federal grant managed by the City’s Department of Metropolitan Development.

In 2008, the City of Indianapolis announced its plans to apply for a $29 million grant with the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The participation goals for the NSP are the same as the City, 15 percent minority, 8 percent women, and 3 percent Veterans.

The six organizations participating are Englewood Community Development Corporation; Greater Eastside Project Team; Development Concepts, Inc; Concord Community Development Corporation; Mapleton-Fall Creek Community Development Corporation; and Southeast Neighborhood Development.

Enginuity Management Corporation and Spectrum Management & Development, two of the project managers, hosted the event at the Englewood Community Church on the City’s near north side.

Anyone seeking more information on the Neighborhood Stabilization Project may contact the DMWBD at (317) 327-5268.
