Recurring Programs:

Tues & Thurs Learn Your Birds, 8am-9:30am at the Ornithology Center. Whether you are already a birder or have considered joining the 47 million other American's that enjoy this pastime, this program is for you! Dress for the weather and bring your binoculars if you have them. Registrants will receive a birding card good for any 10 sessions, Tuesday & Thursday, September-October. Ages 12+, $20/10 session punch card. Call 317-327-2473 to register, or register online at indyparks.org by entering course code #11080

Saturdays Nature Discovery Class, 1:30pm at the Earth Discovery Center. Enjoy some nature fun at the Earth Discovery Center! Call 317-327-7148 for daily details. All ages, free with park admission.

Saturdays Raptor Feeding Time, Join a naturalist at the Ornithology Center to watch us feed one or more of our live birds of prey. Feeding will only take a few minutes so make sure not to be late! Please call ahead if you plan to bring a large group: 317-327-BIRD. All ages, free with park admission!

Sundays Sunday Morning Birdwalk, 9am-11am at the Ornithology Center. Join a group of new and experienced birders for a brisk morning bird walk! Meets every Sunday morning, rain or shine. The walk is not geared specifically toward children, but they are welcome to attend. Free with park admission. 

Sundays Feeding Time, 1:30pm at the Earth Discovery Center. Watch as our educational reptiles, amphibians and other critters enjoy their lunch! All ages, free with park admission.

Sundays Meet A Raptor, 2:30-3pm at the Ornithology Center. Join a naturalist to discover the world of raptors! You will meet one (or more!) of our special live birds of prey (hawks, owls, and vultures) and learn about what makes them "raptors." All ages, free with park admission.

Nov 2 (Wed)

Volunteer Coffee Talk, 8:30am-9:30am at the Earth Discovery Center. “Urban Wildlife Conservation: The Backyard as Crucial Wildlife Habitat and What You Can Do to Make It Even Better” Presented by Falyn Owens, Urban Wildlife Biologist, Indiana Department of Natural Resources. People often think of wildlife conservation as something that happens only in wild places with minimal human disturbance, but mounting evidence shows that urban spaces provide vitally important habitat for wildlife. In an age where “human habitat” is more wide-spread than ever before, we’ll discuss everyday acts of conservation to make your own backyard a place where wildlife and people can not only coexist, but thrive together. Free with park admission, open to the public.

Storytime on the Reservoir "The Very Quiet Cricket" 9:30am-10am at the Earth Discovery Center. The Very Quiet Cricket by Eric Carle is our story this week. After reading the story, participants can observe real crickets, act our part of the story, and more for the duration of the program. This program is best suited for children in preschool and kindergarten, but anyone who is in early elementary or younger is welcome to join us. If the weather is nice, we will meet at the shelter by the Earth Discovery Center. If the weather doesn't cooperate, we will meet indoors. Nov 4 (Fri) 

Fall Homeschool Jamboree, 10am-2:40pm at the Earth Discovery Center. Registration begins October 3 at 9am and ends Oct 14 or when all spaces have filled. Students attend four environmental education classes in an exciting, educational, and fun-filled day. Ages 8-14, $15/person, register online at indyparks.org by entering course code #11242, or visit the Homeschool Page​ for more information.

Nov 5 (Sat)

Picnic on the Porch-Crane Watch, 12pm-1pm at the Ornithology Center. Bring a picnic lunch and listen for the musical call of Sandhill Cranes as they migrate over the Ornithology Center's south deck. Hot beverages may be provided if it’s a chilly day! Children can also try out the obstacle course and pretend to be migrating cranes! Storytime on the Reservoir "We're Going on a Leaf Hunt" 9:30am-10am at the Earth Discovery Center.   After reading We're Going on a Leaf Hunt by Steve Metzger, participants will explore types of leaves from the book and artifacts from the surprise animal that shows up at the end of the book! This program is best suited for children in preschool and kindergarten, but anyone who is in early elementary or younger is welcome to join us. If the weather is nice, we will meet at the shelter by the Earth Discovery Center. If the weather doesn't cooperate, we will meet indoors. Nov 10 (Thurs) 

Little Ducklings Monthly Series: Turkeys, 1-2pm at the Ornithology Center. Learn easy ways to engage your preschooler in nature and encourage their curiosity in the natural world. A new topic will be introduced each class through hands-on activities, hikes, stories, and take-home ideas for continuing the exploration at home. Ages 3-5 with caregiver, $6/class; $24 full series, register online at indyparks.org by entering course code #11255.

YMCA 5K, starting at 8:30 am. The Pike YMCA, “Heroes, Health, Hope 5K Race” is a fundraiser to help bring awareness and assistance to our underserved Veteran population and it will specifically benefit the Hoosier Veteran’s Assistance Foundation. This race will also benefit the youth and families of Pike Township who need financial assistance to participate in our YMCA membership and programs. Free Activity: DIY Recycled Bird Feeder, all day at the Ornithology Center. Celebrate America Recycles Day! Bring a milk jug, juice, or soda bottle (or use one of ours) and make a recycled feeder for the winter birds in your backyard! Please call ahead if you plan to bring a large group: 317-327-BIRD. Nov 16 (Weds)

Storytime on the Reservoir "When the Leaf Blew In" 9:30am-10am at the Earth Discovery Center. The nature center frogs will be making an appearance at Story Time this week. Frogs are just one of many animals caught up in a chain reaction after one leaf blows into the barn. Come discover what other animals are involved when we read the book When the Leaf Blew In by Steve Matzger This program is best suited for children in preschool and kindergarten, but anyone who is in early elementary or younger is welcome to join us. If the weather is nice, we will meet at the shelter by the Earth Discovery Center. If the weather doesn't cooperate, we will meet indoors. Bird Hike, 10am-11am at the Ornithology Center. Celebrate Take a Hike Day with a bird hike through the beautiful Eagle Creek Park! All minors must be accompanied by an adult. Free with park admission.

Girl Scout Hiker Badge, 5pm-6pm at the Ornithology Center. Every trail leads to a new adventure! Let an Eagle Creek guide take you on new adventures for National Take a Hike Day! Explore the park and learn fun things about hiking. Girls will earn their Hiker badge. Register at girlscoutsindiana.org $6/girl, $1/adult. Fee includes park admission.

Nov 19 & 20 (Sat, Sun) 

Celebration of Nature Drop Off, 9am-5pm Saturday and 1pm-5pm Sunday at the Earth Discovery Center. Fill out your registration form and drop off your nature artwork for our exhibit December 3rd-11th.

Nov 23 (Weds)

Storytime on the Reservoir "Mousekin's Thanksgiving" 9:30am-10am at the Earth Discovery Center.  This program is best suited for children in preschool and kindergarten, but anyone who is in early elementary or younger is welcome to join us. If the weather is nice, we will meet at the shelter by the Earth Discovery Center. If the weather doesn't cooperate, we will meet indoors. Turkey Talk, 11am-12pm at the Ornithology Center. Learn about the “turkey day” hero, meet our Turkey Vulture, and do a Thanksgiving Day craft! All minors must be accompanied by an adult. Free with park admission.

Nov 29 (Tues) 

Girl Scout Birds of Prey, 5pm-6pm at the Ornithology Center. Have you ever stared at a hawk up close or hooted like an owl? See birds of prey up close while learning about their individual behaviors, eating habits, conservation and more. Examine their beaks, feet, and other adaptations that make them successful birds of prey. Girls will earn the Birds of Prey fun patch. Register at girlscoutsindiana.org $6/girl, $1/adult. Fee includes park admission.

Nov 30 (Weds)

Storytime on the Reservoir "Boris Beaver" 9:30am-10am at the Earth Discovery Center. This program is best suited for children in preschool and kindergarten, but anyone who is in early elementary or younger is welcome to join us. Storytime on the Reservoir "The Lonely Scarecrow" 9:30am-10am at the Earth Discovery Center.  The Lonely Scarecrow by Tim Preston is a great book for this time of year when autumn is transitioning to winter. We will read the story and then see some artifacts from the animals who come to visit the scarecrow in the story.This program is best suited for children in preschool and kindergarten, but anyone who is in early elementary or younger is welcome to join us. If the weather is nice, we will meet at the shelter by the Earth Discovery Center. If the weather doesn't cooperate, we will meet indoors. This program is free with park admission and parents must stay for the duration of the program.​ 


Dec 8 (Thurs)
