Nature Discovery Class1:30pm at the Earth Discovery Center. Stop by on the weekend for a fun activity at the Earth Discovery Center! Topics vary - possible activities include nature hikes, insects, pond life, simple crafts, and more! Free with park admission.

Sunday Morning Birdwalk9am-11am at the Ornithology Center. Join a group of new and experienced birders for a brisk morning bird walk! Meets every Sunday morning at Eagle Creek Ornithology Center, rain or shine. The walk is not geared specifically toward children, but they are welcome to attend! Free with park admission.​​

Feeding Time1:30pm at the Earth Discovery Center. Watch as our educational reptiles, amphibians and other critters enjoy their lunch!  You'll learn some natural history about each animal along the way. On the menu: worms, defrosted mice, salad, crickets, and frozen bloodworms, yum! Free with park admission.​


Saturdays & Sundays 

Feathered Fun2pm at the Ornithology Center.  Join a naturalist at the Ornithology Center to discover the world of birds. Topics could include hikes, birds of prey, migration, and more! Indianapolis Rowing Center Learn to Row 5:30-8:30pm (second session meets 5:30-8:30pm on May 4). Learn-to-Row (LTR) is an introductory class for adults (or parent/child) to the sport of rowing.  Over the course of 6 hours, IRC coaches, with the help of volunteers, will teach you proper rowing technique, inside and on the water, as well as educate you on rowing terminology, safety and teamwork.  For more information or to register please go to https://irc21.wildapricot.org/event-2186055

Birds and Blooms Hike  10am-11:30am at the Ornithology Center. ​ Spring is the time that colorful jewels arrive both in the sky and from the ground.  We will take a hike to view some of Eagle Creek's magnificent spring wildflowers, tree blooms, and returning birds. International Migratory Bird Day  10am-3pm at the Ornithology Center. Eagle Creek Park invites you to join us in celebrating International Migratory Bird Day with a festival at the Ornithology Center! FREE with park admission. The day will include activities for all ages and birding abilities, featuring our NEW Great Migration Challenge Obstacle Course, bird hikes, bird feeder building, live bird shows, owl pellet dissections, birding contests, and more! Nature Discovery Class - "Salamander Survey"  1:30pm-2pm at the Earth Discovery Center.  Make your contribution to citizen science as we go out in search of red-backed salamanders. Salamanders and other amphibians are great indicators of an area's environmental health.  Join us for an exploratory hike for our shy, slimy friends under logs and along the water.  All ages, free with park admission. May 21 (Sat)  IDNR Free Fishing Day! (Regular park entry fees still apply).  Indiana residents do not need a fishing license or a trout/salmon stamp to fish the state's public waters today, including Eagle Creek Reservoir. Typically, only youth (age 17 and younger) and are exempt from the license requirement.​ http://www.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/3598.htm

May 21 (Sat)
Morning Migration Hike  8am-10am at the Ornithology Center. Celebrate Earth Day with a hike on the beautiful trails of Eagle Creek Park! Eagle Creek is a popular resting spot for many magnificent spring migrants. Join us for a hike led by one of our bird experts, Dr. Stephen Nawrocki, to look for the migrating birds that we may only see twice a year!  Beginning birders and all nature-loving hikers welcome! Please bring binoculars if you have them. Volunteer Coffee Talk "Taking Care of Nature:  Natural Areas Management at Eagle Creek Park"  ​8:30am-10:00am at the Earth Discovery Center. Presenter: Brenda Howard, Senior Ecologist, DPW-Land Stewardship. With hundreds of acres of natural area within the park, how do we preserve and restore these precious resources?  Why should we care?  What if we do nothing?  This is a look into the decision making processes and management decisions involved in doing ecological restoration work at Eagle Creek Park. Open to the public, free with park admission.​

Peace Learning Center Family Program:  12pm-1:30pm at the Peace Learning Center.  Session 1: "We're in this love together"- Participants will discuss and highlight the positive qualities of their family. This sets the tone for subsequent sessions. Summer Night Trail Marathon

Eagle Creek Park Foundation Annual Kids Fishing Derby 8am-12pm at Lilly Lake.  Every year, the Foundation hosts a free Kids Fishing Derby on the first Saturday of June, which falls on one of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources designated free-fishing days.This particular day allows Indiana residents to fish in the reservoir without a license or a trout/salmon stamp. We welcome children ages 4-14 to participate along with families and larger youth or church groups, at no cost. All children must be supervised by an adult or group leader. All participants receive a goody bag, bait, and a cookout lunch. We have a limited number of fishing poles available to borrow on a first-come, first-served basis, but if you own a pole, we certainly encourage you to bring it.​ Space is limited!  Pre-registration required at

HOW TO SERIES: Identifying Bird Songs  ​6pm-8pm at the Ornithology Center. Wouldn't you love to know which bird wakes you up in the morning with its beautiful song outside your window? Next Indiana Campfires - Eagle Creek Park Paddling Tour and Campfire Discussion  7pm-10:30pm at Marina and Earth Discovery Center.  Sponsored by Indiana Humanities in celebration of Indiana's 200th year as a state, Next Indiana Campfires are a unique way to connect nature, literature, and Indiana's Bicentennial.  Trek and talk with us! During this outing, a humanities scholar will serve as facilitator and lead attendees on the route, stopping periodically to read aloud the words of important Hoosier authors. We’ll be joined by a naturalists who will point out interesting finding along our adventure. Participants will then gather around a campfire to discuss connections between nature, literature and place. Join Indiana Humanities, Eagle Creek Outfitters and Eagle Creek Park for a two-hour sunset paddling tour on Eagle Creek Reservoir and Fishback Creek, followed by discussion and food at the Earth Discovery Center.
