August 1 (Mon)

Indianapolis Rowing Center Learn to Row  6pm-9pm (second session meets 6pm-9pm on August 3). Learn-to-Row (LTR) is an introductory class for adults (or parent/child) to the sport of rowing.  Over the course of 6 hours, IRC coaches, with the help of volunteers, will teach you proper rowing technique, inside and on the water, as well as educate you on rowing terminology, safety and teamwork.  For more information or to register please go to ​​https://irc21.wildapricot.org/event-2186078​

Eagle Creek Outfitters Guided Sunset Paddle Program 5:30pm-8:30pm at the Marina. ​Leisurely explore the reservoir of Eagle Creek Park in a kayak or canoe during a Wednesday night sunset. An experienced guide will lead you around to see the sights, enjoy the sounds (even a live band), and tell you some history about the reservoir. This paddle is focused on the nature preserve area of the reservoir. We provide all required gear and basic paddle/safety instructions. Jazz on the Point - Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra 6:30pm at the Marina. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy an evening of music and nature by Eagle Creek Reservoir.  Free with park admission.​

August 6 (Sat)

Coffee and Canvas  ​9:30am-12:30pm at the Ornithology Center. 
Come to the Ornithology Center for fresh shade-grown coffee (and other beverages) and a step-by-step art class where you will create a beautiful bird painting to take home. 
A little nervous to paint? Don't worry! No talent or experience is necessary. 
The program fee includes park admission and all art supplies (canvas, acrylic paint, and brushes).

Peace Learning Center Family Program:  12pm-1:30pm at the Peace Learning Center.  Session 5: "Do you hear me, are you listening?"- Participants will learn various types of communication.  They will learn the nuances of listening; observing; passive communication; aggressive communication; as well as non-verbal communication.  Poor communication is often at the root of family conflicts.  $30/family, register online at http://peacelearningcenter.org/summer-fun-family-workshop/  ​​​​

August 11 (Thurs)

Indiana Master Naturalist Series  Meets10 sessions, Thursday evenings 6pm-9pm at the Earth Discovery Center through October 13. The mission of the Indiana Master Naturalist program is to bring together natural resources specialists with adult learners to foster an understanding of Indiana's plants, water, soils, and wildlife, and promote volunteer service in local communities.  $75  IN Master Naturalist 2016 brochure and registration - this program is now FULL.  To be added to the wait list or to be notified about future IMN opportunities, please contact IMN Coordinator Jennifer Boyce at jennifer.boyce@indy.gov ​

August 12 (Fri)

Perseid Meteor Shower  10pm-12am at Eagle's Crest Soccer Fields.  Check out the annual Perseid Meteor Shower at Eagle's Crest, on the west side of Eagle Creek Reservoir (located at 7201 Raceway Rd.)  The moon this year will be waxing towards full, so dark sky conditions are not ideal, but a predicted “burst” year of meteors will hopefully provide some visible meteor action!   Members of the Indiana Astronomical Society will be on hand with telescopes to explore the moon, planets, nebulae and other wonders of the night sky.  Bring a blanket or lawn chair, bug spray, and anything else you want to stay comfortable while gazing at the night sky.  Free!  Program may be cancelled due to weather or cloudy skies; call 327-7148 (before 5pm) or go to www.facebook.com/eaglecreekpark for the latest updates. 

August 16 (Tues)

Migratory Bird Treaty Act Centennial Celebration ​12pm-5pm at the Ornithology Center.  To celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the MBTA, the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, the Ornithology Center will have an afternoon full of fun activities including our NEW Great Migration Challenge obstacle course (ages 6-12 only), bird hikes, and live bird presentations, FREE with park admission!​  Please call 317-327-BIRD(2473) for more information.

Peace Learning Center Family Program:  12pm-1:30pm at the Peace Learning Center.  Session 5: "Developing a family peace plan"- Using art materials, participants will draw up a declaration that oulines how they envision their peaceful family.  They will also create a family crest taht expresses the best of themselves as a loving and cooperative unit.  Workshop participants will also receive a "Certificate of Completion."  $30/family, register online at http://peacelearningcenter.org/summer-fun-family-workshop/  ​​​​

Herbs and Birds  ​3pm-4pm at the Ornithology Center. Come learn all about Indiana's native wild edible and medicinal plants and how people and birds use them. We will even make your own natural herbal tea!​
 $5/person, ages 12+.

August 27 (Sat)

Indianapolis Sprint Triathlon ​   Park access restricted from 8am-11am

Parkémon Day  12pm-5pm at the Earth Discovery Center. ​While you are out trying to catch Pokémon, you just might encounter some Parkémon as well! Learn about the natural history of both Pokémon and Parkémon, and have fun searching for and meeting some of our local wildlife at the Earth Discovery Center! Free with park admission.

Ongoing 12pm-5pm - we'll have lures out at the EDC pokestop, fun Pokémon-themed signage about our EDC educational animals, a Poké-map of pokestops and gyms in the park to explore on your own, and power strips available for phone charging (bring your charger).

12:30pm Short Parkémon Hike: Take a 30 minute/0.5 mile hike (0.8km) with a naturalist to learn about our outdoor Parkémon.

1:30pm Parkémon Program: meet some Parkémon up close, and try some turtle candy! (indoors)

2:00pm Long Parkémon Hike: Join us for a 1.5 hour/2.5 mile hike (4.0 km) to the Ornithology Center and back - enough to hatch a 2 km egg or get a good start on a 5 or 10 km egg! If we make it to the Ornithology Center by 2:30pm, we may even get a chance to meet one of their Raptor Parkémon!
