Description
Municipal Gardens is one of Indy Parks' oldest recreation centers. Prior to opening as a public park in 1952, Municipal Gardens served as a private canoe and yacht club, as well as a popular dance hall. The building was constructed in 1920. Municipal Gardens serves youth, adults, seniors, and people with special needs.

History
Municipal Gardens has earned a reputation around the country for its national champion Amateur Athletic Union ( AAU) basketball teams. Rising out of the annual Jr. Basketball League, Municipal Garden's teams earned the national championship title nine times and national championship runner up titles six times since the program started in 1955.

Municipal Gardens Dad's Club Football League has been in existence since 1956 and is dedicated to the youth of the greater Indianapolis community. Dad's Club football is just one of the many ways to teach teamwork, unity, and respect for themselves and others. (Games and practices are currently housed at Riverside Park.)
