INDIANAPOLIS – ‘Tis the season that animal shelters are filled with cats and kittens, making it an ideal time to adopt. To encourage adoption, Indianapolis Animal Care & Control (IACC) and the Humane Society of Indianapolis (HSI) join the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and its online adoption partner, Petfinder.com, to proclaim June as national Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month.
Pet ownership is a long-term commitment and therefore deserves serious thought. It takes considerable confidence to love a cat – one moment they are cuddling up looking for love and the next they are up and away, tail and nose in air – leaving you thinking, “What have I done wrong?” However, cat-lovers swear by the ease and independence of caring for pets of the feline persuasion. Cat-lovers don’t pussyfoot around: they know the little purr-balls are the cat’s meow.
Human-animal bond literature is quick to point out that in addition to the long recognized benefits of companionship, pet ownership can also have very positive health benefits.
Indianapolis Animal Care & Control and the Humane Society of Indianapolis will help get you started with a new feline friend. The cost of adopting a cat from both IACC and HSI (5 months and older) during the month of June is $45.00. Included in the cat adoption package is the spay/neuter procedure, Feline Leukemia and FIV testing, first round of booster vaccinations, and a microchip, permanent pet identification.
In addition to the low-cost adoption package, the following items will also be provided to each customer:
Indianapolis Animal Care & Control is located at 2600 S. Harding St. and is open 10am – 6pm, Monday through Friday with extended hours on Wednesday until 7pm and 10 - 4pm, Saturday.
