National Preparedness Month

September 6, 2006
National Preparedness Month is a nationwide effort held each September to encourage Americans to take simple steps to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses and schools. The goal is to increase public awareness of the importance in preparing for emergencies and encourage individuals to take action. Marion County Emergency Management is raising awareness by hosting an event, today, September 6th from
11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Monument Circle
. We have invited our partners in public safety to participate and help us educate our community in the importance of personal and individual preparedness. Each organization will have preparedness literature, information on training opportunities and examples of preparedness materials.
Marion County Emergency Management, Crime Watch, American Red Cross of Greater Indianapolis, Animal Care and Control, Salvation Army, National Weather Service,
Fire Department and Citizens Gas will all participate in this event.
We are encouraging
Indianapolis residents to take a few simple steps to increase their emergency preparedness; build an emergency plan, build a kit, have an emergency communication plan and be informed. During a disaster an individual or family may be required to take care of themselves for 24-72 hours. These simple steps will help insure their safety and security.
