ToxDrop

DID YOU KNOW...
DPW has a ToxDrop program that is FREE to all Indianapolis residents?

As a service to citizens, the city offers a year-round ToxDrop collection program that makes it easier for Indianapolis residents to dispose of their household hazardous waste (HHW).

Some Acceptable Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)

Over the last decade, we have been able to diverted more than a quarter of a million gallons of HHW from the city's sewers, waterways and aquifers through periodic ToxAway events and on scheduled Saturdays. The ToxDrop program is a significant advancement to help residents properly and safely dispose of HHW.

ToxDrop helps Indianapolis residents make their homes safer while preventing damage to the environment. This program is the natural evolution of the city's 10-year-old HHW program. The convenient weekday and weekend hours and location will encourage participation and make sure waste is not poured down the drain or dumped on the ground.

Indianapolis, Marion County residents are able to drop off their HHW in the following ways:

  1. Materials may be dropped off on Tuesdays and Thursdays between the hours of 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. at our Belmont Avenue Collection Facility at 2700 S. Belmont Ave. map

  2. Materials may be dropped off between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on the first and third Saturday of each month at the Trader's Point collection Facility at 7550 N. Lafayette Road. map

  3. Materials may be dropped off between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on the first and third Saturday of each month at the IMPD Training Facility at 9049 East 10th St. map

  4. Materials may be dropped off between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on the second and fourth Saturday of each month at the Perry Township Government Center Collection Facility at 4925 Shelby St. map

On fifth Saturday, all locations are closed.

Most household hazardous waste is accepted, although certain high-hazard materials are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

See sidebar for a listing of acceptable HHW materials and electronics.

At the ToxDrop locations, residents have their wastes unloaded and sorted. Collected waste is disposed through Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved disposal methods.

The city's ToxDrop program is also open to small businesses that produce less than 220 pounds or 300 gallons of hazardous waste each month. These businesses, known as "conditionally-exempt, small-quantity generators (CESQG)," must call the ToxDrop hotline for approval of the quantity and type of materials. Waste will not be accepted from businesses that do not call prior to drop-off.
