Welcome to SustainIndy!
Created in 2008 by Mayor Greg Ballard, the City of Indianapolis’ Office of Sustainability is making the City one of the most sustainable and livable cities in the Midwest.

Since its creation, the Office has led this effort by collaborating to achieve community-defined goals and establishing public-private partnerships to create a more sustainable Indianapolis.

What is Sustainability?

A sustainable community is one that is built around a strong economy, a healthy environment and an exceptional quality of life.

What's New?

STAR Communities

star pilot logo.JPG  Indianapolis is excited to be a pilot community in the STAR Communities Ratings System.

STAR Communities helps cities and counties achieve meaningful sustainability through the first national framework for local community efforts. The STAR mission is to advance a national framework for sustainable communities through the delivery of standards and tools built by and for local governments and the communities they serve. STAR empowers communities to chart a clear path toward a sustainable future.
