Chapter 581 of the Revised Code of the Consolidated City of Indianapolis/Marion County, Indiana, as enforced by the Office of Equal Opportunity, prohibits discrimination in employment, housing, education, and public accommodation on the basis of a person’s race, religion, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, ancestry, age, disability, or United States military service veteran status, or retaliation.
At the direction of the Honorable Gregory Ballard, Mayor, the Office of Equal Opportunity was transferred to the Office of Corporation Counsel to reduce a backlog of hundreds of discrimination claims which dated back to 2002. As a result, the Office of Equal Opportunity worked diligently to eliminate the backlog of cases. Now, the Office of Equal Opportunity promptly investigates all claims filed with its Office.
The Office of Equal Opportunity fairly investigates claims of discrimination within Marion County, Indiana to determine whether there is reasonable cause to believe discrimination occurred. If the investigation finds that an entity has violated the law, action is initiated to stop the discrimination.
