Filing A Charge of Discrimination

If you believe you have been discriminated against by an employer, when applying for a job or while on the job because of:

  • Race
  • Color
  • Sex
  • Religion
  • National Origin
  • Disability
  • Age
  • Sexual Orientation
  • Gender Identity
  • U.S. Military Veteran Status
  • Retaliation
  • Ancestry

You may file a charge of discrimination with the Office of Equal Opportunity. Also, if you believe you have been discriminated against because of the reasons listed above, in:

  • Housing
  • Public Accommodations
  • Education
  • Employment

You may file a charge of discrimination with the Office of Equal Opportunity. A charge must be filed within one hundred and eighty (180) days of the alleged violation.

When filing a complaint with the Office of Equal Opportunity, you should be prepared to provide the following information: 

  • The name, address, and telephone number of the person filing the complaint.
  • The name, address, and telephone number of the employer, company, or entity that you are alleging engaged in discrimination against you, and the approximate amount of employees employed by the company, if known.
  • A short description of the event(s) with supporting documentation, if any, which caused the person filing the complaint to believe that his/her rights were violated.
  • The date or dates the events took place.
  • The name, address, and telephone number of any witness to the alleged discriminatory action.
