City Council To Actively Promote Seniors’ Health

Indianapolis - The Indianapolis City-County Council will host a Senior Health Celebration on Thursday, April 20, focused on helping seniors live a longer and healthier life. A news conference to kick off the event will be held at 8:30 a.m. followed by a walk around the mall with Council Members and seniors at 9:00 a.m. to promote fitness.

The event will consist of over 25 free screenings, including blood pressure, cholesterol, prostate, and depression/anxiety checks. Seniors will be able to get dental, eye, and hearing exams.

WHEN: Thursday, April 20, 2006

· Press Conference at 8:30 a.m. with comments from Marion County Health Department Director Virginia Caine, M.D., elected officials and local health care experts.

· Walk with Council members from 9 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.

· Health Celebration (activities, giveaways and health screenings)

9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

WHERE: Washington Square Mall, 10202 E. Washington St.

(Anyone arriving prior to 9 a.m. should enter on the east side of mall in the Sears corridor. Balloons and signs outside the door will help indicate the entrance. Park in the Sears/Dick's Sporting Goods parking lot.)

Seniors will also have the opportunity to learn about Medicare Part D Assessments from trained professionals.

In addition to the free screenings, lunch will be provided to the first 2,500 seniors that attend the Celebration.

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield is the title sponsor of the event.
