Councillor Talley Honored

Indianapolis - Councillor Steve Talley was honored by the Binford Redevelopment and Growth (BRAG) Group at a ceremony on Saturday, April 22 by the planting of a tree in his honor. The tree is located at the northeast end of Stanley Security Solutions at East 75th St. and Binford Blvd.

"The energy and excitement within the Binford Redevelopment And Growth Group kept me motivated, and encouraged," said Councillor Talley. "I am humbled to be recognized in such a way as this. Indianapolis is a great city and groups like BRAG will make it even better," he said.

The tree that will honor Councillor Talley is a Bald Cypress. An Indiana limestone marker will be placed underneath the tree that will read:

Bald Cypress tree planted in honor of City-County Councillor Steve Talley

‘Bald Cypress (taxodium distichum) native to wet and even swampy areas, bare in the winter, yellow color in the fall with a soft green feathery look in the summer.

Trees are beautiful in their peace, wise in their silence. They inspire, energize, and reassure our faith, devotion and courage. Each generation should serve as a trustee of the earth for the next.’

Jane Lommel, president of BRAG shared with Councillor Talley that "We’ve made great strides in less than one year, in large part due to your continuous participation and invaluable contacts."

Councillor Talley assisted the group with rezoning issues, beautification projects, planting of flowers and trees, removing the unsightly chain link fence along Binford Blvd. and getting the area along Binford Blvd. designated as a ‘gateway’ into the City of Indianapolis.

"I can’t take credit for all of the work that has been done to bring energy and excitement back into this area. It has been BRAG that has done the heavy lifting. I’ve been there to help any way possible and I’m happy that I was given the opportunity to work with them," said Councillor Talley.

BRAG Group’s mission is to, ‘build a sense of community by, retaining existing business and attracting new business and residents and growing toward a brighter future.’
