Councillor Jackie Nytes among Indianapolis officials attending the National League of Cities Congress of Cities

Indianapolis - Councillor Nytes (District 9) will be joining other municipal leaders including Mayor Bart Peterson at the March 10-14, 2007, Congressional City Conference of the National League of Cities in Washington, D.C.  Mayor Peterson is the current President of NLC.

Nytes will be participating in the City Futures Public Finance Panel which she currently chairs, and the Finance, Administration, and Intergovernmental Relations (FAIR) Committee meeting. These groups are focused on reforming the system of public finance in American cities.

Councillor Nytes will also be moderating the Workshop on Managing Pension and Health Care Costs, a topic that her Committee is studying this year.  Public employee pensions are a topic of great concern to officials here in Indianapolis as well as cities across the country.

The conference will include leadership training seminars that provide skill development opportunities.  The seminars include such topics as developing an emergency preparedness plan, local economic development, federal funding for roads and transportation, affordable housing, alternative energy, education reform to name a few.

During the conference, several administrative and Congressional leaders will be on hand to discuss their priorities and give their reactions to the NLC agenda.  The final day of the conference will afford all attendees the chance to meet with their Congressional leaders to discuss issues affecting local government and constituents.
