Council President Ryan Vaughn Files Redistricting Proposal

Proposed Ordinance to be introduced on December 5, 2011.

INDIANAPOLIS (November 23, 2011) – City-County Council President Ryan Vaughn today filed a proposal to redistrict the City-County Council boundaries.  The proposal will be introduced on December 5, 2011 and proceed through the normal Council process.
In addition to the standard Council process, President Vaughn announced a series of public meetings around the county for the purpose of taking public input on the redistricting process.  Those meetings are as follows:
November 28th 6-8pm
Wayne Township Fire Headquarters, 700 N. High School Rd. (2nd floor classroom A) (Elevator is available).

December 1st 6-8pm
John Boner Center, 2236 East 10th Street.

December 6th 6-8pm
Sterrett Center, 8950 Otis Avenue.

December 8th 6-8pm
City County Building, Public Assembly Room.
Vaughn stated, “The redistricting process is designed to ensure that our citizens are represented fairly. The introduced ordinance meets the statutory requirements for geographic compactness, population deviation and adherence to precinct boundaries.  Additionally, the districts are politically competitive and designed to reflect the community which its serves.”
Proposed maps are attached to this release and are also available in the City-County Council offices.  A draft of the proposed ordinance will be available in the Council office and on the Council’s website on Friday, December 2, 2011 before the proposal’s official introduction on Monday, December 5, 2011.
