Quarterly Reports

The Inheritance Tax division of the Marion County Assessor’s Office audits all Inheritance Tax returns (IH-6) filed for decedents who were residents of Marion County. The standard to which our office is measured is our auditing turnaround time. This is the length of time it takes from when a return is filed in our office to when our audit is complete and the Probate Judge signs the Order of Inheritance Tax (IH-9). Our goal is to have a majority of the files processed in 14 days or less. This demonstrates an efficient office and good stewardship of taxpayer money. You can help our turnaround time. Often small steps are forgotten, making a return incomplete and slowing the auditing process. Remember attachments to the return such as:

  • Appraisals of real estate and other personal property
  • Appraisals of real estate and other personal property
  • Bank statements with values on the date of death
  • Copy of the decedent’s last will and testament
  • Itemized funeral bill
  • Copy of the death certificate.

See the Inheritance Tax Instructions on the forms page for more information.
