Functions of the Office
Real Property Assessments
The Washington Township Assessor's Office is responsible for the assessment of approximately 51,000 real property parcels in Washington Township for taxation purposes. Real property is assessed as of March 1st, with property taxes due the following year (e.g. 2002 payable 2003).
Personal Property Assessments
Approximately 8,200 businesses and individuals are assessed for tangible personal property in Washington Township. Businesses are assessed as of March 1st for both tangible property and inventory. Individuals are assessed for vehicles on which they do not pay excise tax, such as Recreational Vehicles and Motor Homes, as well as human-powered boats.
Real Estate Records
The Washington Township Assessor's Office is responsible for the maintenance and related update of the property system database. This includes the transfer of all real property for taxation purposes (i.e. ownership transfer deeds), plat approval, deed cutouts and parcel combinations. Plat maps are also maintained on a Geographic Information System.
If you need to change the mailing address for your property tax information (tax bills, assessment notices, etc.), you may send a written request (including the signature of one of the owners), a fax request with the same information, or an e-mail with the new address, an owner's name, and a telephone number for confirmation.
