Clerk White and Election Board staff outline election preparations
White and the Election Board received briefings relating to core areas of the election process. Ranging from the status of Inspector procurement and training to plans for Election Day phone operators and field operatives, White said she is pleased with the progress made since May’s troubled primary election.
“I’m cautiously optimistic about where we are right now. While it’s important to always remember that there is no such thing as a perfect election, I’m confident we have the right kind of plans in place to deal with the problems that do arise,” White said.
Prior to the meeting, the Election Board finished the final training of its telephone hotline operators and then conducted a brief exercise with the software simulating the Election Day environment.
“We have put tremendous time and energy into making sure we don't have system-wide problems on Tuesday. We know from all elections in recent memory that with 917 precincts and 4,000 workers throughout Marion County, it is likely an inspector will oversleep, a voting machine will malfunction, or somebody’s car will break down. A successful election day will mean that we spot these unavoidable issues and resolve them quickly with minimal inconvenience to voters.” White added.
