INDIANAPOLIS – With less than two weeks before the May primary election, Marion County Clerk Beth White urges registered voters to “know where to vote.”
“At the beginning of the year, our county began using new precinct maps and many polling place locations will be new to voters,” Clerk White said. “This will be an historic Election Day for our our state. Every voter should be prepared before May 6 by double checking where it is they go to vote.”
In Marion County, registered voters can take advantage of two tools to determine their polling place location. They can call 327-VOTE (327-8683) or use the polling place locator found at www.Indy.Gov/Election08. The automated phone line uses the voter’s birthdate and house number to determine their polling location. The number also links voters to the Voter Registration and Election Board offices.
The Web-based locator asks for a voter to enter their mailing address and offers an option to enter their birthdate to confirm that they are registered to vote. When they click ‘search,’ the next screen provides their polling place location. This screen has additional features for voters:
· ‘Display district’ – List of offices served by their voting district
· ‘Show map’ – Includes the voter’s address and the polling place location
For Election Day, the Election Board will also post information at old polling locations to notify voters that the precinct’s polling location has changed. The poster will include information on the new location and provide a phone number to the Election Board.
Late last year, new precinct maps were approved for Marion County, reducing the total number of voting precincts from 917 to 590. There are 358 polling locations for the upcoming primary election.
