New Polling Locations

Indianapolis –The Marion County Election Board recently updated the polling place locator feature on its Election 2008 Web site, www.Indy.Gov/Election08, making it easier for voters to find out where they vote on March 11 in the Special Election.

“Residents need to be aware that they may be voting at a new precinct polling place location this year,” Election Board Secretary and County Clerk Beth White said. “This feature is one more option for voters to use so that they have the best information available to them to participate in our democracy.”

This Web-based feature was designed with the March 11 Special Election in mind. Voters will enter their address and click ‘search.’ However, unlike previous versions of the locator, the next screen will let the person know whether or not their address falls within the boundaries of the 7th Congressional District.

If the voter lives in the 7th District, their polling place information appears. If they do not, the voter is asked to check back after the Special Election when the locator will be updated to include information for all Marion County voters. Voters can also call Voter Registration at (317) 327-VOTE and ask for their updated polling place location or visit www.Indy.Gov/Election08 to download the full list of approved polling locations.

In addition, the Election Board’s Web site <www.Indy.Gov/Election08> has been redesigned to provide information in a more user-friendly format. Visitors can find maps with the new voting precincts, download absentee ballot applications or search for information specific to each of the upcoming elections.

About the new Precinct Plan:

At the end of last year, a new county-wide precinct plan was endorsed by the Indiana Secretary of State and adopted by the city of Indianapolis. The Mayor’s office was responsible for selecting new polling locations and the list was approved on Friday, February 8.

The Voter Registration Board is charged with updating precinct data on the more than 620,000 registered voters in Marion County. Voters will receive a new voter registration card with their new precinct and polling location information prior to the March 11 Special Election.
