Clerk White kicks off yVote! today
Effort to encourage students to vote now underway
“Encouraging students to be an active, lifetime participant in our democratic process begins at an early age,” Clerk White said. “I want to arm students with the information they need to be prepared to go to the polls on Election Day and believe yVote! is a great way to do just that.”
Launched in the fall of 2009, yVote! gives students a hands-on opportunity to use actual voting equipment they would use on Election Day. Students who will be 18 on or before the next general election can register to vote. Clerk White also spends time with the students to explain election administration and answer their questions.
Last year, Clerk White brought yVote! to six high schools and three elementary schools. This fall, she plans to visit at least 11 high schools. Marion County’s public, private and charter high schools have been invited to participate and a few spots are still available.
