Clerk White to hold annual Valentine’s Day wedding fundraiser

INDIANAPOLIS – In an effort to raise money for the American Heart Association, Marion County Clerk Beth White will perform civil marriage ceremonies from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 14.

“This is a great option for couples looking for a simple, solemn, civil ceremony with the coveted Valentine’s Day anniversary date,” Clerk White said. “Plus, it’s a nice way bring attention to American Heart Month and the Heart Association’s ‘Go Red for Women’ campaign.”

Located in the City-County Building in room W-122, the Clerk’s office will be transformed into a wedding ‘chapel’ on Valentine’s Day. In lieu of an officiant’s fee, couples are asked to make a $50 contribution to the American Heart Association. Last year’s event raised more than $1200; 2007’s event raised more than $800.

The marriage license desk will also be open for couples wishing to apply for a license on Valentine’s Day. A valid marriage license is required for any couple planning to be married. To apply for a marriage license in Marion County, either the bride or groom must be a resident of the county. Marion County couples are required to show proof of residency and pay an $18 license fee.

Couples considering a Valentine’s Day ceremony in the Clerk’s office can make a reservation by calling (317) 327-4740. They are also encouraged to apply for their marriage license before Valentine’s Day or to arrive early to complete the application process.
