Safe Driver Deferral Program FAQs

What is the deferral program?

The Safe Driver Deferral program is an agreement between you and the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office to withhold prosecution of this ticket, provided you agree to an online contract.

Is there a class for the Deferral Program?

There is no class for this program. This is a preventive measure to avoid points being placed against your license, should you agree to and comply with the terms of the contract.

Can I take the Deferral program if I live out of state?

Yes. The fact that the Agreement is listed online enables all persons who qualify, to participate in the program whether or not they reside in the state of Indiana or Marion County.

Why does the Safe Driver Deferral program cost more than paying the ticket?

The Deferral program, if completed successfully, results in a dismissal of your ticket.  If you pay the ticket it ends up in a judgment that may appear on your driving record and may cause an increase in your insurance premiums.  Therefore, in the long term, the deferral program may end up saving you money.
