Treasurer’s  Biography
In February 2012, Claudia O. Fuentes was elected to serve the residents of Marion County and Indianapolis as the County Treasurer. The Marion County Treasurer has the assigned authority to bill, collect, invest and distribute property taxes and to provide financial analysis related to these functions. In addition to these responsibilities, the Treasurer serves as Vice-President of the Marion County Board of Commissioners and as a member of the Marion County Board of Finance and Information Technology Board.

Treasurer Fuentes began her professional career as a public servant in economic development.  She worked at the Indiana Department of Commerce in the Development Finance Division as a Financial Analyst.  She worked on structuring incentive packages to create jobs for Indiana as the Tax Incentives Manager for the Indiana Economic Development Corporation.   In February 2007, she narrowed her focus on the residents of Marion County as Deputy Auditor for Marion County Auditor Billie J. Breaux.  In this position, she interacted directly with other County staff to fully integrate a new computer property tax system, all the while managing the duties assigned to the Auditor’s Office from the 2007 Reassessment of Marion County.  She improved and increased operating efficiencies, and identified opportunities for tax savings.  As part of a collaborative effort to eliminate Homestead Fraud, she worked closely with the Legislature to create new rules for applying for the deduction.
Treasurer Fuentes earned her Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Finance from Butler University in 2007 and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Indiana University.
Treasurer Fuentes, a lifelong resident of Indiana, currently resides on the Westside of Indianapolis with her husband and two younger sons. Her older son is active duty military, currently serving with the U.S. Navy.
