NOTE ABOUT FILING DEADLINES:  Deduction applications, including those completed via the sales disclosure form, must be dated and completed by December 31 of the calendar year for which the person wishes to obtain the deduction and filed on or before January 5 of the immediately succeeding calendar year. Therefore, if the sales disclosure form is completed and dated on or before December 31, 2012 and filed on or before January 5, 2013, the application deadline would be satisfied for property taxes first due and payable in 2013.

 

The Marion County Auditor is a constitutional officer who also serves as secretary of the Board of County Commissioners

Auditor's Office Responsibilities

In Marion County, the Auditor is responsible for:

  • Distribution of revenue collections to county taxing units and local government entities
  • Administration of all funds and grants
  • Managing accounts payable and fixed assets
  • Preparing payroll and coordinating employee benefits administration
  • Accepting applications for and maintaining property tax deductions for all county property owners (property owners can apply for various tax credits to reduce their property taxes)
  • Managing records and notices of sale of real estate delinquent in taxes, and
  • Accepting and managing petitions or remonstrances and certifying the names of property owners
