Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry took the oath of office at midnight on January 1, 2011. During his first year in office, the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO) undertook aggressive tactics to prosecute those involved in guns, gangs, drugs, violent crimes, and white collar crimes. The MCPO also renewed its commitment to the Community Prosecution Division, which serves as the main link between the MCPO and Marion County’s citizens. Below are some of the highlights of the Curry Administration’s first year.
Gangs, Guns, and Violent Crime:
The first homicide of the year occurred at 12:45 a.m. on January 1, 2011. A 20 year-old college football star was gunned down in front of his grandmother’s house for telling the alleged shooter to move his car. Throughout the year, the men and women of the MCPO Major Case Division worked tirelessly to curb the senseless violence which continues to plague our community.
