Before being elected Judge in 2008, Tim Oakes served as the President and General Counsel of the Indiana Cable Telecommunications Association (ICTA) from March 2004 to December of 2008.  Immediately prior to joining ICTA, Tim practiced law as a sole practitioner for eight years at Oakes Law Office specializing in criminal defense, family law, government affairs, and probate.  Tim also held part-time Public Defender contracts with Marion and Shelby Counties.  During the legislative sessions of 2001-2004, Tim also served as Contract Legal Counsel to the Indiana House of Representatives, Republican Caucus.  Tim has also served as Adjunct Professor to the School for Public and Environmental Affairs, IUPUI, teaching Evidence and Criminal Law, and to the Indiana University School of Law- Indianapolis, teaching an original course on Judicial Selection.  

He is currently the Presiding Judge of the Executive Committee of the Marion Superior Courts.

 Tim received his undergraduate degree in 1986 from Wabash College, spending one semester abroad at Oxford University in 1985, and he received his J.D. from Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis in 1991.
