Office: (317) 327-3301 The Uniform Crime Reporting Program is a nationwide, cooperative statistical effort administered by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The Program's primary objective is to generate a reliable set of criminal statistics for use in law enforcement administration. Seven offenses were chosen to serve as an index for gauging fluctuations in the overall volume and rate of crime. Known collectively as the Crime Index, these offenses include the violent crimes of murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault and the property crimes of burglary, larceny (theft), and motor vehicle theft.
Starting with January 2007 data, the UCR Crime Trend will reflect crime for the consolidated Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. It will be classified and compiled by staff assigned to the IMPD Crime Analysis Section's UCR Unit.
For data prior to January 2007, separate crime trends were published for the Indianapolis Police Department and the Marion County Sheriff's Department. Prior years' Crime Trend reports for the Indianapolis Police Department are available below. Prior years' crime data for the Marion County Sheriff's are contained in the Progress Reports referenced on that agency's homepage.
