You may purchase a copy of your own criminal history by appearing in person at the Citizens' Services Desk or by making a written request to the Citizens' Services Desk, Suite E100, 50 North Alabama Street, Indianapolis, IN 46204.
Limited criminal histories may also be obtained for pre-employment checks by potential employers and in a number of other circumstances outlined by state law. These checks also may be made in person or through written request to the Citizens' Services Desk, Suite E100, 50 North Alabama Street, Indianapolis, IN 46204.
Criminal histories may be checked by name and date of birth or verified by fingerprints. Where checks are made by name and date of birth only, we cannot guarantee that the record of the individual we furnish is actually the record of the individual whose record was requested. A full set of fingerprints is needed to assure such accuracy. You may have prints taken at the Citizens' Services Desk, or you may have prints taken at your local law enforcement agency on their print card and mail the card to the Citizens' Services Desk with your written request for the record.
By State law, the limited criminal history includes all Marion County cases that have a disposition as well as Marion County cases without a disposition if the case is less than one year old. Cases older than one year without a disposition are not included. The IMPD limited criminal history contains only arrests made in Marion County. For charges outside of Marion County, it is best to contact the police agency in the area where the requested subject might have resided.
The cost of a limited criminal history is $10.00. The Service Desk is open for criminal history checks from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday (excluding holidays). Three full business days are needed to process limited criminal history requests. You may call 327-3410 for more information.
