Christel House Academy Earns Highest ISTEP+ Scores Among Indianapolis Charter Schools

Christel House Academy has something to celebrate this year. The academy, one of 19 Mayor-sponsored charters, achieved the highest Average Percent Passing ISTEP+ score among all Indianapolis area charter schools. Christel House Academy’s score of 74.3 percent topped the state’s average of 71.4 percent. In addition, the academy had the fourth highest ISTEP scores among all school districts in Marion County.

Christel House Academy Principal Carey Dahnke and Christel DeHaan, founder of Christel House International, are thrilled with the school’s scores.

"We have worked extremely hard to move our students along on the journey of academic achievement," said Dahnke. "They know we believe in them and have high expectations."

The hard work has paid off. The Academy, which has nearly 90 percent free and reduced lunch students, opened its doors in 2002. The first year’s average ISTEP score was 28.4 percent. Scores have consistently improved each year, and have increased over 154 percent in seven years.

"I am joyous for our students and extremely proud of our Christel House Academy team," said DeHaan.

In other news, Christel House recently hosted the Inaugural Braking the Cycle motorcycle ride. The October 10th event drew over 90 motorcycle enthusiasts from across Central Indiana.

Honorary Co-chair, Governor Mitch Daniels, welcomed cyclists as they lined up for a ride to scenic Brown County and back. Title Sponsor, Hensley Legal Group, helped generate over $15,000 to help break the cycle of poverty for children around the world.
