Infrastructure Advisory Commission

The Infrastructure Advisory Commission holds regular public meetings
to discuss solutions, get feedback and answer questions from citizens.
About the Commission:
Indianapolis-Marion County faces more than $5B in critical infrastructure needs.
Why is this number so staggering?
The answer is that much of Indianapolis’ transportation, water, and sewer systems are more than 50 years old and in need of repair, and that inadequate maintenance in past years makes improvements more difficult today.
These costs impact the economic development of Marion County in a significant way, and now is not the time to be short-sighted or narrow-minded about methods to make these improvements to the City-County’s critical infrastructure.
In February 2009, Mayor Ballard created the Infrastructure Advisory Commission to devise recommendations and solutions to the City-County infrastructure needs.
Commission's Role:
- Review potential long-term solutions to Indianapolis-Marion County’s critical infrastructure issues.
- Provide recommendations to Mayor Ballard to improve Indianapolis-Marion County infrastructure, with a goal of preserving both a high quality of life and affordable cost of living.
- Challenge conventional wisdom.
- Solicit feedback from citizens.
- Review both national and international models and contemporary approaches for financing infrastructure improvements, and their applicability to Indianapolis.
