The adoption fee is $60. It includes all age-appropriate vaccinations (except for rabies), a microchip, spay or neuter surgery, and a heartworm or feline leukemia test.

Then, come into the shelter to see what pet is right for your home. Identification is required to walk through our kennels and meet the animals. Once you have found the perfect match, you will need to fill out our Adoption Application.pdf.
Please note it is recommended you arrive at least one hour prior to closing time to adopt an animal. This will allow time to interact with several animals from the adoption rooms and complete the necessary paperwork. Adoption applications cannot be processed after the shelter has closed.
NEW for 2018: IACS launches a new program to help pet owners keep and responsibly care for their pets. Indy CARES, with the help of various community partners aims to reduce the number of animals surrendered to the shelter by providing pet owners with alternatives. For more information visit Indy CARES.
IACS accepts any animals that are surrendered to us. Identification is required at the time of the surrender, and we only accept animals during our business hours from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., Sunday-Tuesday, Friday and Saturday; and 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., Thursday. If you find a homeless animal after our business hours, please contact the Mayor's Action Center at 327-4622 or visit RequestIndy.
Surrendering an animal is free of charge to Marion County residents, but donations are accepted. For out-of-county residents, a $40 fee will be charged. We do not accept checks for this fee and a surcharge may be applied for debit and credit cards.
Microchipping is the best way to ensure your pet is always carrying proper identification. In the case of a lost pet or natural disaster, this is the only way to ensure your pet will come back to you if it's taken to a shelter. IACS offers microchipping without appointment anytime during normal business hours. The fee is $10.
If you have an animal complaint or concern, please call the Mayor's Action Center at 327-4622 or visit RequestIndy.
