The City of Indianapolis has undertaken two initiatives in an attempt to revitalize two distinct areas of the city. Significant tax savings are available to companies that rehabilitate or redevelop within these revitalization districts.

  • Eastside Revitalization District
This district provides for a five year real property tax abatement to property owners that demolish or renovating existing buildings that meet certain criteria pertaining to this district.

  • Lafayette Square Area Community Revitalization Enhancement District (CRED)
Located on the northwest side of Indianapolis, the Lafayette Square Area CRED is designed to promote economic development, improve the visual character in the Lafayette Square area and promote a mixed-use community that knits together the business district and surrounding neighborhoods. The designation of a CRED allows local government to capture sales and income tax increments from the district and use them to assist with site improvements, infrastructure improvements, operating expenses, substance removal or remedial action to a property. The CRED designation also allows property owners to claim a state tax credit equal to 25% of the qualified investment.
