Riverside Park Master Plan
RiversideMasterPlanWebPic.PNG

Indy Parks is developing its Riverside Regional Park Master Plan. Riverside Regional Park, located on the near west side of Indianapolis, is one of our community’s premier amenities for open space, recreation, and culture. The Master Plan process began in January 2017 and will conclude in November 2017.

Get InvolvedOur last public meeting was held on Thursday, August 10. Take a look at recommendations for the park's redevelopment: Riverside Park Master Plan Concepts.

Tarkington Park

Tarkington Park is ready for play as its new playground makes its debut. The new, modern playground includes a climbing wall, tunnels, slides, two half-court basketball courts, benches, and swings.

“From the moment you step onto the new playground, you know you are going to have a great time at Tarkington Park,” said Linda Broadfoot, Director of Indy Parks. “Our planning team really thought about how children were going to use this space. The vibrant colors, the cushiony surfaces and endless places to explore all serve to welcome families to this wonderful park.”

The park, which is located at 45 W. 40th Street, has undergone more than a year of construction and overall improvements. Improvements to the park were identified through a series of public input meetings and in collaboration with community-building organizations. The nearly $6 million investment will also include accessible restrooms, café, splash plaza, and two full basketball courts.

Tarkington Park is located in Maple Crossing near the intersection of 39th and Meridian. The Tarkington Park Master Plan was adopted by the City in November of 2012. The plan was a group effort of numerous area neighborhood plans which called for area redevelopment, new investment, and improved public amenities. This park serves a diverse community in the Butler-Tarkington neighborhood, residents of downtown Indy, and out-of-city visitors.

Mayor Joe Hogsett, the Friends of Holliday Park and Indy Parks unveiled the restored structure, which originally opened in 1978 and has been off limits to the public for almost 20 years. The Ruins, the spectacular stone structure located in the park, have undergone a major facelift. Now restored, the Ruins area features a children’s water table, shimmer fountain, benches, an allée of trees and new gardens. In 2010, the Friends of Holliday Park launched a capital campaign to raise funds to renovate the exhibit hall in the nature center and revitalize and endow the Ruins.
